STMA Girls Basketball

Spring Sports began last week, but for STMA Girls Basketball the winter season is still in full gear. St. Michael-Albertville Girls Basketball is no stranger to the state tournament as they are looking for their 3rd straight trip to "the dance." The Knights were the #1 seed in section 8AAAA and opened up defeating #8 Bemidji 85-27 in the quarterfinals. Next up was #5 seeded Rogers in the semifinals. Knights cruised to a 54-32 win over their conference rivals. Last Friday was a rematch of last years Section Finals against #3 seeded Elk River. Same match up same result as STMA defeated Elk River 75-66 stamping their ticket to the state tournament once again. This will be Head Coach Kent Hamre's 6th state appearance as head coach. Seedings and match ups were announced on Saturday:

STMA Sports Recap: March 3rd, 2014

STMA Wrestling had another fantastic State Tournament this year. On Thursday they began the day defeating Moorhead 46-12.  The Knights unfortunately lost to Prior Lake 37-12 in the state semifinals. Later on in the following match STMA Defeated Hastings 30-15 crowning them 3rd place champions. The next two days brought individual competition where six STMA Wrestlers qualified. Here are the results:
Aaron Dick: 5th place @ 106 lbs
*Mitchell McKee: 1st place @ 120 lbs
Tommy Thorn: 1st place @ 126 lbs  (4th Straight Title)
Mark Voss: 1st place @ 145 lbs
Evan Roster: 8th Place @ 170 lbs
Jake Briggs: 5th place @ 195 lbs

* Sophomore Mitchell McKee had huge motivation to win his first ever state title, as his father was released from the hospital to watch from the stands. Mitch's father is losing his battle with cancer, prayers go out to the McKee family from all of us in STMA.

Boys Basketball: 
















STMA Boys Basketball season came to an end on Saturday night losing to top seeded St. Cloud Tech in the Section 8AAAA semifinals. Early in the first half STMA had a 8 point lead over the Tech Tigers but Tech's Andy Foley's 30pts proved to be too much as the knights fell 64-52 and ended their season with an overall record of 14-13

Girls Basketball:
STMA Girls Basketball ended the regular season last Thursday defeating Monticello 59-35. The knights finished the regular season going 20-4 overall and going an impressive 13-0 in the conference and 8-1 in the section. The #1 seeded Knights begin section play Tuesday night as they host the 8th seeded Bemidji Lumberjacks (4-20) at 7:30. Head Coach Kent Hamre will try and make a 6th state tournament appearance of his head Coaching career with the Knights
