Well it's that time of the year. Snowy roads, cold weather and frustrated Minnesotans. Although it's cold on the outside things are heating up in the gym. It's section/state playoff time and it's the best time of the year. I will recap Winter Sports seasons.
Girls Hockey: North Wright County ended the Regular season 14-8-3. finished their season with a 4OT thriller against St. Cloud Cathedral in the Section quarterfinals. Unfortunately that ended their season. 2 Seniors from STMA Will be Playing D-1 Hockey next year. Goalie Alex LaMere will be Playing for Ohio state and Emily Achterkirch will be playing for Princeton.
Boys Hockey: The knights came into section play with a record of 13-11-1. The knights came into sections with a lot of momentum as they came off a 15-0 blowout win over North Branch the final regular season game of the year. The Knights fought hard to the very end but unfortunately lost 3-2 in OT to Andover in the section 7AA quarterfinals. Congrats to the Boys on a great season!
Wrestling: STMA Wrestling is as good and it gets. They are the real deal and they have proven that once again with their 16th consecutive section title. Last season they were CO State Champions with Apple Valley. They are looking for a 2nd straight title tomorrow at the Team State Tournament! They are seeded 2nd behind Apple Valley, they will take on Moorhead at 9AM at the X. Knights also have 6 individuals participating in the individual State Tourney on Friday and Saturday! They are Aaron Dick @ 106 LBS, Mitchell McKee @ 120 LBS, Tommy Thorn @ 126 LBS, Mark Voss @ 145 LBS, Evan Foster @ 170 LBS, Jake Briggs @ 195 LBS, Go Knights! Below is the AAA State Team Bracket
Boys Basketball: Since the 1st of the year the Tim Anfenson's Boys Basketball team has been on fire as of late. Winning 11/16 games since the 1st of the year. The Knights have brought that momentum into the section play as they defeated Moorhead 75-60 in the quarterfinals last night. They will take on #1 seeded St. Cloud Tech on Saturday at St. Cloud State University at 6:00pm. Be there to cheer on your knights! Below is the Section Bracket for 8AAAA
Girls Basketball: The STMA Girls Basketball team has had another incredible year under head Coach Kent Hamre who was voted section 8AAAA Head Girls Coach of the year. Steph Lahr of STMA was voted section 8AAAA Girls Assistant Coach of the year. Congrats to the both of them. Head Coach Kent Hamre and the Knights are 19-4 so far this season. They have gone 12-0 in the confrence and 8-1 in he section, The Knights will finish the regular season tomorrow night at Monticello. That game will begin at 7:15. Section play will begin next Tuesday night at home with the opponent still TBD. That game will begin at 7pm, come out and cheer on the Knights as they try for a 3rd straight section championship.
